These past two days I have been figuring out what kind of voice I want my product to have. I decided that I want my product to use more periods than exclamation points, and convey enthusiasm through matter of fact statements. It should be witty, but accessible, and sound more like a team captain than a coach. It is important that the experience is supportive and friendly, but also matter of fact, and brutally transparent.
John Cusack’s character, Rob Gordon (written by Nick Hornby as Rob Fleming) in High Fidelity, seemed to me to be a kind of wonderful comparison. The blue post its are some brainstorming I have done around the kind of language I’d like to use. Next steps: creating and mapping specific phrases to specific actions/moments within the product.
